[Synapse elist] stupidity

in christian society, since god gave adam and eve dominion over the
animals,
we have been harnessing animal lives for our own use..

i guess it just depends where you draw an ethical line..
dog breeding to get more cute and fluffy pets?
battery chicken farming?
performing animals in zoos and circuses?
harness horse racing?
mine stops at animal testing for cosmetics, and growing human organs
in pigs..

so do we see robots any differently than as our slaves - and how far
far does that go?
where is the ethical line here?

"Falling out of love with robots
Can we ever form meaningful relationships with robots?
Bill Thompson doesn't think he is going to fall for a robot anytime
soon.
Much as I adore my MacBook I have no desire to form a life-long union
with it or attempt to interface in any way that doesn't involve keys,
trackpad and my fingers.
Others seem to feel differently about the matter, like David Levy,
who reckons that by the middle of the century our relationships with
the machines that currently service our social lives will have grown
significantly, and that intelligent robots will be sexual partners
too. "
